Notes | DEATH: The Kentish Gazette has the following obituary: Fri. Jan 13 1786. Saturday Died at Margate Mr. W. Neame formerly an eminent farmer of Upper Hale Thanet. The farm in quesiton is Nether Hale. It is almost sea level, on the edge of the marsh which separates Thanet from the mainland of Kent. Extensively built onto in the 18th and 19th centuries it retain the medieval windows and other fetures of the primitive farmhouse in whiich the family would have resided. Alan Neame describes it in a 1980 letter as having been acquired recently by a '"a very slick Eastender who loks as though he made the money to pay for it by poncing off of many prostitutes." |
